Snorkeling
- From late November to mid April, over 3000 humpback whales make their way to the warm ocean waters off Hawaii to have their babies. There are many whale watching tours to choose from with most of them departing from the harbors in either Maalaea or Lahaina. Choose a tour that includes a boat size you are comfortable with, if you can handle a ocean raft then that will get you closer to the whales with the best views. A larger twin hulled boat will have more guests on board making it harder to see the whales from both sides of the boat, but is better for those who suffer from sea sickness. The best months for whale watching are January to March. Our personal favorite is Hawaii Ocean Rafting or Ultimate Whale Watch tours, or Seafire Charters out of Kihei; they limit passengers to 12 per boat making it easy to see the whales from every seat.
Dinner, Cocktail, & Sunset Cruises
- Sunset cruises can be on catamarans, twin hulled boats, and even sailboats, departing from South Maui off Maluaka Beach, Maalaea. Most cruises are cocktail cruises including appetizers, a buffet style meal, or full dinner with table service including a musician or band. Prices vary from $90 - $190.
Surfing Lessons
- Hawaii is known for some of the absolute best surfing in the world including the world-renowned Jaws on Maui and the North Shore on Oahu. Surfing lessons are available for all ages and best done in Kihei off Kalama Beach or off Kaanapali Beach on the West side. There are many vendors offering lessons and equipment. If you want to watch some great surfing, Ho'okipa Beach near Pai'a and Slaughterhouse Beach in Kapalua can be some great choices.
Kayaking & Canoeing
- Going out on a kayak or canoe can give you some great views of the coastline as well as put up close to marine life! In Kihei there are two canoe clubs that you can join one morning for a trip, and there are several kayak tours available in South and West Maui. You can also rent equipment or take lessons. If you have never kayaked or canoed on the ocean before, please schedule a tour as the ocean can be very unpredictable for those who haven't spent much time in it.
Paddle boarding
- Another way to see great views of the island, paddle boarding or SUP is a fun way to spend a morning on Maui! You can rent equipment, take lessons, or take a paddle tour. Mornings are best for calmer waters and less wind.
Parasailing
- This can be one of those memorable moments on your trip! The parasailing season is typically May 16th - December 14th to avoid whale season. Leaving from the Lahaina harbor or the Kaanapali coastline, you can sail 38-50 stories off the water and see incredible views of the ocean and West Maui. Prices range from $89 - $300 for up to 3 people at a time.
Scuba Diving
- Maui has some of the best scuba diving in the world! South and West Maui, as well as Molokini, Lanai, and Moloka'i offer some really great dive spots including the Cathredals which is one of the most popular dives off Lanai. You can find dive schools and lessons, as well equipment rentals and dive guides all over the island.
Kitesurfing
- Maui is often considered to be one of the best windsurfing areas in the world! Between March and October are the best months for kitesurfing of the island, and the North Shore will be the best area. You can find many places to rent gear get lessons in Paia and Kahalui. Ho'okipa Beach is one of the best places to watch and do some kitesurfing.
Atlantis Submarine
